Derek Duong is pursuing a master’s degree in public health at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston's School of Public Health Austin Campus. He is on the customized public health track and plans to pursue a certificate in data science. Duong earned a bachelor's degree in neuroscience with a minor in business from The University of Texas at Austin in 2021. He has previously volunteered for the Vietnamese Dual Language Program at Summitt Elementary, where he helped uplift students' learning experiences with culture and language. With a varied background, he is interested in how people can collectively use healthcare and data to improve health outcomes in underserved communities. After graduation, Duong hopes to materialize his experience to make equitable, lasting changes in the U.S. healthcare system
