Biography
Alaa Melek is a doctoral student in biomedical engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the same field at Cairo University, Egypt. Her research is centered on the applications of AI in healthcare. Melek aspires to leverage her expertise in AI alongside her public policy insights gained from the Graduate Archer Fellowship. She is dedicated to becoming a prominent voice in developing policies governing the ethical, safe, and equitable deployment of AI in healthcare. Additionally, she serves as the technical activities chair of the student activities committee for the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
