J.C. Derrick is a senior at the University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in journalism with a minor in political science. After transferring to UTA with an All-Texas All-Academic Team Scholarship in the fall of 2010, J.C. served two semesters as the administration reporter for the school's daily newspaper, The Shorthorn. Previously J.C. was the executive editor at The Flare, the school newspaper at Kilgore College, and he has nine years of writing experience for the Longview News-Journal. He is a member of the Texas Sports Writers Association, Phi Theta Kappa and the Golden Key International Honour Society. J.C. will combine his journalism experience and his interest in law with an internship at the Reporter's Committee for Freedom of the Press while in Washington, D.C, this fall.
