Biography

Cortney Sanders is a rising senior at The University of Texas at Austin pursuing a dual degree in Government and African and African Diaspora Studies with a minor in Political Communications. At UT Austin, as Political Action Chair and member of the Black Student Alliance and in conjunction with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Cortney filed an amicus brief in Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin—a recent Supreme Court case challenging the legitimacy of affirmative action. Cortney spent this past summer participating in the Public Policy International Affairs program for students pursuing a career in public service at the University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Cortney's policy interests include education, community development, social justice, domestic defense, and social welfare. She is looking forward to working for the U.S. House Committee for Education and the Workforce.
