Sergio Plaza III is a senior at The University of Texas at Austin, where he is majoring in both Government and Sociology, with a minor in History. Sergio spends much of his time volunteering with his co-ed service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. In his three semesters with Texas APO, Sergio has completed more than 450 hours of service, including a five week voter registration drive that registered more than 1,700 students to vote last fall, a fundraiser for the higher education of orphans in India, and the haunted house at last October's Longhorn Halloween. An advocate for education equity, Sergio spent this summer as an operations coordinator with the Transportation and Special Events team at Teach For America's Houston Institute and hopes to join Teach For America as a corps member after graduation. This fall, Sergio hopes to learn more on education policy as an intern with the Education Policy Office of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor & Pensions.
