Biography

Brandy Hennon is a senior at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in sociology with a minor in government. Hennon has worked in healthcare for the past three years, including her most recent position as a phlebotomist at the Central Texas blood bank, and a previous position as a medical assistant at a family medicine practice in South Austin. For the past two years, she has volunteered as a phlebotomist at the Volunteer Health Clinic providing health services to those without insurance. She has also volunteered with the Austin Harm Reduction Coalition doing street outreach with those who use IV drugs in East Austin. Hennon is most passionate about the intersection between healthcare reform and criminal justice reform and is interested in policy concerning increasing access to healthcare and ending the War on Drugs. After graduation, she hopes to attend law school to complete a joint JD/MSW program so she can continue with advocacy work in drug and health policy.
