Biography

Amel Weaver is a first-generation college student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in sociology with a minor in business. Weaver's experience encompasses federal and state civil service. Recently, she completed an education and labor policy internship with Texas American Federation of Teachers. She has also interned for Texas State Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) in the Houston District Office and with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation. Weaver has also done a great deal of on-campus work supporting marginalizing populations through the Multicultural Engagement Center–Afrikan American Affairs and Texas Orange Jackets. She is passionate about a variety of policy matters and, most importantly, fighting for racial equity. She plans to pursue a joint degree in law with a master's degree in public policy or social work.
