Biography

Julia Bowen is a senior at The University of Texas at San Antonio majoring in global affairs with a focus in Latin American studies. She has interned with the Consulates of Belgium and Namibia and the City of San Antonio Global Engagement Office, where her interests in diplomacy and trade were fostered. On campus, Bowen has served as the secretary general of the Model United Nations Society, the volunteer coordinator for the Global Business Brigades, a United Nations millennium fellow, and a Peace Corps campus ambassador. In 2019, she co-founded a financial literacy program for Afghani refugees in San Antonio that is maintained by collegiate volunteers. A winner of the 2021 WMGIC NATO Cybersecurity Challenge, Bowen worked collaboratively to present innovative solutions on international disinformation standards to NATO leaders. Passionate about volunteering both globally and locally, she has worked with organizations including the House of Neighborly Service, Catholic Charities, RAICES, Praying Pelican Missions, and the Dominguez State Jail for a philosophy and literature circle with inmates. In the spring of her junior year, Bowen studied abroad in Chile to learn about conducting business in Latin America. After graduation, she hopes to work in areas related to Latin America, trade, and encouraging economic autonomy.
