Karla Desatnik is a senior in the Liberal Arts Honors program at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in psychology and pursuing a certificate in children and society with the Bridging Disciplines Programs. On campus, she served as the project coordinator for Project SEED, a research study centered on changes in the social, emotional, and educational experiences of bilingual Mexican American youth who translate for their monolingual, Spanish-speaking parents. She has also worked with Students Expanding Austin Literacy and Girlstart to provide educational services to young students and to the Austin community. Desatnik is a strong believer in working with students’ existing knowledge and abilities to create a learning environment that leads them to success. After graduation, she plans to attend graduate school to focus on educational policy and work to create more equitable learning experiences for students.
