Maya Mackey is a junior at The University of Texas at Austin triple majoring in government, history, and Plan II Honors with a certificate in core texts and ideas from the Jefferson Scholars Program and a minor in law, justice, and society. This summer, she deepened her understanding of civil rights and constitutional law by working for the National Prison Project at the American Civil Liberties Union. On campus, she served as the chief justice of the UT Austin Supreme Court, worked as admissions staff for her honors program, and led social justice service learning through the Community Engagement Collective. She is passionate about social and legal history and recently completed her research capstone on police brutality in Austin, Texas. After graduation, Mackey will go to law school to practice civil rights law, with her eye on becoming a federal judge.
