Emily Betancourt is a junior in The University of Texas at Tyler’s Honors College, majoring in political science with a minor in anthropology. On campus, Betancourt served as president of Este Poder, which empowers rural East Texans of color through civic engagement. This experience inspired her to become a community activist and leader who advocates for education in rural communities. She is also a former delegate in the UT Tyler Model United Nations Program. In spring 2025, she was selected to participate in The University of Texas System’s Texas Legislative Fellowship Program, where she interned with the Office of State Representative Eddie Morales Jr. (HD-74). During her internship, Betancourt worked alongside staffers on transportation, education, and border security issues. After graduation, she hopes to attend law school and pursue a career in immigration law.
