Biography

Grecia Ortega is a senior at The University of Texas at El Paso, majoring in public health science. She centers her academic and co-curricular work on public service and health equity in border communities. Ortega’s leadership has included roles as a health sciences collegiate senator in the Student Government Association, chapter recruitment and outreach officer for Texas Rising, and co-chair of the Green Fund. She was named 2025-2026 Sun Princess on the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl Sun Court, through which she has championed student advocacy, civic participation, and sustainability initiatives across campus and the broader community. She also brought this commitment to her work as a research assistant with the Homefree, Outreach, Prevention, Education initiative and as an intern in the Office of U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar (TX-16), gaining firsthand experience in community-based public health efforts and federal constituent services that strengthened her dedication to advancing public health policy for underserved border communities.
