Carlos Castañeda is a Senior at the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Honors College. He will graduate in May 2010 with a major in Political Science and two minors: Legal Studies and Spanish. He is a member of Toastmasters (a respected public speaking and leadership organization) and has been President of its UTSA chapter for two semesters. He is also part of the medical volunteer organization, “Los Quijotes” (The Quixotes), which goes to the state of Oaxaca, Mexico each year to provide free medical services to the public. In Oaxaca, he works in the ophthalmology department, using his bilingual skills to help patients select needed eyeglasses. In Washington, he will intern in the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars as a research assistant studying legal and security issues in Mexico.
