Biography
Melissa Butler will earn a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Arts in Government from The University of Texas at Austin this spring. As a chemistry student, she spent three and a half years researching in organic chemistry, neuroscience and pharmacology, and biochemistry laboratories, eventually writing her honors thesis on her synthesis of novel fluorescent material. In Washington, D.C., Melissa will take this science background to an internship in science policy, focusing on rule-making, administration, and regulation. In her internship at Austin law firm Hotze Runkle, she analyzes impacts of tort reform legislation, monitors bankruptcy cases, and handles asbestos claims. Melissa hopes to attend law school next fall.
