Jessica D’Souza is a pre-medicine junior studying sociology and minoring in political science at The University of Texas at Dallas. She is honored to be studying as a Eugene McDermott Scholar. At UTD, Jessica has been involved with Student Government, where she served as the Communications Chair and on the I Heart UT Dallas (Health Awareness Fair) Committee and was selected as Freshman Senator of the Year. In her sophomore year she developed a campus wide study of mental health perceptions and counseling services. After an enriching semester at the University of Navarra, Jessica is spending spring 2013 interning with the American Public Health Association in the Government Relations Department. She plans to pursue a career in public health, focusing on health policy and advocacy especially relating to malnutrition and the obesity epidemic. A loyal native of St. Louis, MO, Jessica has also grown to cherish the Dallas community and volunteers with Rainbow Days Kids’ Organization.
