Jihane Bergaoui is a senior at The University of Texas at Austin where she is pursuing a degree in Government with a minor in French, along with an additional 19 hour-credit certificate on Ethics and Leadership. An avid human rights activist, Ms. Bergaoui has used her strong passion for human rights and women’s rights to make a positive difference in her community. She worked for Amnesty International as Student Area Coordinator for Texas while at the same time fulfilling her role as Vice-President of her university’s chapter, which was recognized as Amnesty’s 2nd best student chapter in the U.S. during her term. She also created and chaired the Women’s Rights Committee and organized UT’s first Stop Violence Against Women Week. Due to her increasing interest in international relations, Ms. Bergaoui spent the Fall 2012 semester studying abroad in Geneva, Switzerland, where she conducted field research to create an independent research project on Islamophobia in Europe, as well as one in French on Prostitution in Switzerland.
