American Bar AssociationYi-Wen “Cassie” Chen is a student at The University of Texas at Austin majoring in government with a minor in Chinese. On campus, she has served as secretary for the Minority Women Pursuing Law student organization. Off campus, she fought for the rights of blue-collar workers at the Equal Justice Center, a non-profit law firm, and interned for Judge Aurora Martinez Jones in Travis County. Chen has also worked for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor under the U.S. Department of State to help fulfill their mission of fighting against authoritarianism and upholding individual rights and freedoms. After graduation, Chen plans to attend law school to specialize in human rights law and dedicate her career to public service.
