Biography

Margarita Solis is a senior at The University of Texas at San Antonio, majoring in public health with minors in biology and translation and interpreting studies. While volunteering at a safety net clinic, Solis witnessed how systemic inequities drive health disparities. She volunteers at the campus food pantry and as an English as a second language teacher, while strengthening her cross-cultural competence through study abroad experiences in Spain and Costa Rica. Solis's research journey began with evaluating pharmaceutical treatments for substance use disorder and has expanded to leading research on Latino health misinformation engagement as a fellow in the Institute of Education Sciences Pathways Program. As a Wellbeing Ambassador at UT San Antonio, Solis has led campus initiatives that connect students to mental health resources. Interning at Bellevue Hospital and NYU Langone Tisch Hospital prompted her engagement in patient-centered systems advocacy as a member of the University Health Patient Family Advisory Council. These experiences reinforced Solis's path towards health policy advocacy as a future physician and public health professional.
